Demak, Jawa Tengah - Five ancient Javanese manuscripts whose exact origins are unknown have been found in The Great Mosque Of Demak. This surprising discovery occurred during the restoration process in one part of the mosque complex, precisely in The Great Mosque Of Demak.
The manuscripts were found by a team of restorers who were cleaning and renovating the Meeting House. These five manuscripts immediately attracted attention because of their relatively well-preserved condition and clearly visible Javanese script.
To maintain authenticity and facilitate access to research, Central Java Regional Library (Perpuswil Jateng) has taken a Quick Step By doing digitalization of the five manuscripts. From the initial identification by the Central Java Regional Library, it was revealed that the five manuscripts were titled: Serat Anglingdarmo, Serat Menak, Suryangalam, Samkok, and Babad Demak.
Nevertheless, it is not yet certain whether the contents of each manuscript are completely the same as the front title. This is natural considering that ancient manuscripts often have variations or summaries of the original work.
Until now, the management of the Great Mosque of Demak and local historians are still trying to identify more about the age, content, and historical context of these valuable manuscripts. There is no exact information about when and how these manuscripts could be at the site of discovery.
This discovery is expected to provide new insights into the long history of the Great Mosque of Demak and Islamic civilization in Java in the past. Further research will be conducted soon, and the board of the Great Mosque of Demak sincerely hopes that experts in the field of Javanese script, history, and philology can participate and help research the manuscripts to unravel the mystery behind this important discovery.
